A diet rich in superfoods does not have to burn a hole in your pocket or cause you any inconvenience. If your meals and snacks rarely include nutritious foods, you’d be glad to know that there are cheap and easy ways to eat healthily.

Unfortunately, old habits can be very hard to break. Developing a taste for superfoods and working them into your daily diet can be very challenging for most of us, but none of these is impossible! If you just take a good look at your usual food choices and figure out where you can make a few tweaks, you can seamlessly add superfoods into the mix.

Of course, things can get a bit tricky if you have food biases or preconceived notions that put you off certain foods. You’ll need to come up with a way to look beyond what you consider to be a negative characteristic of the food, which could range from its appearance and texture to its smell and taste. To get over a food bias, try pureeing, dicing, shredding or simply mixing superfoods you don’t like so much with the foods you do like.

Here’s an awesome tip: make your meals colourful. This is also part of the six easy ways to fight inflammation. Think of your plates as a rainbow, with a variety of colourful, healthy and delicious superfoods. The nutrients of vegetables can differ significantly depending on their colour, so a colourful plate is bound to offer a complete mix of vitamins and minerals.

Make sure your plates have green leafy vegetables such as kale, lettuce and spinach; red ones such as tomatoes and red peppers; yellow ones such as squash; orange ones such as carrots and orange peppers. The list goes on! And of course, don’t forget to add some fruits like blueberries and strawberries. It’s literally impossible to run out of ways to make your meals and snacks more nutritious and appetising.

  1. You know my biggest problem is preparing the food. As much as I want to eat healthy, I don’t have time so I always end up eating out 🙁
